Remote education provision: information for parents

This information is intended to provide clarity and transparency to pupils and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education if local restrictions require entire cohorts (or bubbles) to remain at home.

The remote curriculum: what is taught to pupils at home

A pupil’s first day or two of being educated remotely might look different from our standard approach, while we take all necessary actions to prepare for a longer period of remote teaching.

What should my child expect from immediate remote education on the first day or two of pupils being sent home?

Our pupils have access to two Google Classroom:

  • Self-Isolating Google Classroom
  • Regular Google Classroom

Individual Self Isolation – when we are informed that pupils are self isolating children will:

  • Receive a ‘postcard’ in their e mail account informing them ‘not to worry’ and that we will be in touch
  • Receive an invite to their ‘self-isolating’ Google classroom. Nb Parents/carers will also have the invite sent to them to ensure it has been seen. Once the self-isolating classroom is accessed the pupils will find:
  1. A timetable to help structure the day
  2. Links to Oak Academy Academy lessons or links to live lessons in school or a recording of an input e.g. the input of a literacy lesson
  3. Learning activities to complement the curriculum in the event timetable work is completed.
  4. Contact will be made with the child for a Google Meet catch-up or intervention by a member of the pastoral or teaching support staff team.

Bubble Closure due to COVID-19 – when a Bubble closes, by e mail to pupil and parent, they will either be directed to their ‘self isolating’ classroom (see above) or learn through their regular ‘Google Classroom’. Once the nominated Google classroom is accessed the pupils will find:

  1. A daily timetable of live lessons for literacy, maths and reading. These sessions, In Y4, Y5 & Y6 will be accompanied by a pre and post task. Y3 does not have a pre-task.
  2. Other areas of the curriculum will be taught by pre-recorded videos, relevant links and associated tasks.
  3. Teachers and support staff will monitor the classroom through the day and return work submitted.
  4. Break out rooms, for small group work or pastoral support will be facilitated to address identified need.

Bubble Closure due to COVID-19 staff absence – where possible a year group teacher will continue the teaching and learning as per a Bubble or Whole School closure and teaching using a Big Teach model. If this is not possible The Oak Academy will be used.

Whole School Closure – as per Bubble Closure.

Nb To access the Self Isolating Google Classroom each pupil requires access and access will only be given to pupils recorded as self isolating.
