Being a Teacher of Food and Nutrition is key to getting younger generations to be passionate about food, nutrition and cooking. We would love you to be able to develop, maintain and stimulate our pupil’s curiosity, interest and enjoyment in Food, Nutrition and Catering whilst providing encouragement and challenge for every pupil to achieve their potential.

The School is currently reviewing our GCSE choices and exam boards so any experience of course options and exam boards is beneficial as well as sharing best practice with colleagues and contributing in extra-curricular Food and Nutrition activities.

As geography teachers we are here to help our pupils understand how people are affected by the environment and how they shape the places where they live.
We inspire and motivate young people to learn more about the physical world around them and how the environment develops and changes.

We aspire to encourage our pupils to take pride in their achievements inside and outside school, supporting them to build good relationships with other pupils and play a positive part in the life of the school and the local community. You’d help them get the knowledge, skills and attributes they’ll need for a successful and positive life when they leave school. Sometimes we need to deal with challenging behaviour so you’d need to be imaginative and enthusiastic to keep them interested.

One of the department’s strengths is its strong sense of teamwork whereby all members feel able to contribute to the development of the department, through sharing knowledge and resources on the department’s Google Drive.

The department currently follows the AQA GCSE Geography and AQA A Level syllabuses, which provides a good balance between physical and human geography. Geography is a very popular option at KS4 with approximately half of each year’s cohort taking the GCSE. We currently teach 11 GCSE classes at Bay House (across Y10 and Y11) and 8 (4 in Y10 and 4 in Y11) at Brune Park.

Our Sixth Form cohort is consistent in numbers and currently comprises three groups at AS and two groups at A2 Level. Our external examination results in Geography at Sixth Form have been classified as very good with 83.9% of our students achieving A*-C grades, resulting in an ALPS 4 score in the 2022 summer exams.

Fieldwork is an important element in the department’s teaching and several trips are arranged each year. This includes an annual AS/A2 level trip to Iceland. Other fieldwork opportunities include a Year 10 trip to Southsea, sixth form trips to nearby Portsmouth, as well as further afield to West Wittering and Swanage. We also encourage learning outside the classroom, with the use of Stokes Bay for coastal fieldwork and Stanley Park and Alver Valley for investigating the characteristics of woodland habitats, both of which are on our doorstep.

Our KS3 schemes of learning and assessments deliver an exciting and varied curriculum to pupils. We place great emphasis on providing a range of active teaching and learning techniques in our lessons to engage learners. In Y7 pupils study Awe and Wonder to introduce them to the dynamic world of geography, a place study of Africa follows with pupils being able to understand the diverse continent. In Y8 students study Oceania and SouthEast Asia to develop their knowledge of the regions in terms of their tectonic processes and the influence this has on development. Pupils will also study their local area in terms of the physical geography of the region.  To encourage independent home learning in a creative format we provide pupils with choices of tasks in terms of both content and presentation.

Despite these successes, we continue to strive for excellence and development and look forward to welcoming you to the team.

We would be interested in receiving applications from both experienced and ECT colleagues if you;

  • understand how children develop, think and learn
  • have a passion for every child achieving beyond what they might have thought possible
  • have a determination to secure positive progress and have high aspirations for every pupil
  • be committed to breaking down barriers to learning and engaging a wide range of pupils
  • be committed to nurturing a child’s happiness and enjoyment of school and life
  • have a strong commitment to safeguarding
  • be an enthusiastic individual with a good sense of humour who is able to develop positive relationships with pupils, parents and team members
  • have a strong understanding of the Maths curriculum, including the recent national changes and challenges faced by learners as a result of school closures.

What can we offer you?

    • The opportunity to join a dedicated team who deliver excellent support to our pupils to ensure positive outcomes in the classroom and wider community
    • Friendly and enthusiastic pupils and colleagues who are rightly proud of their schools
    • A firm commitment to on-going professional development and your well-being, as part of a supportive and professional work environment with a focus on skill development and progression for all team members
    • Membership of one of the UK’s largest public sector pension schemes
    • Access to a school gym and swimming pool.

Health and Social Care is a popular subject at both GCSE and A level providing the opportunity to share best practice in the subject; there may be an opportunity for A-Level teaching.  You will receive brilliant continuing professional development to master your craft and become an outstanding practitioner, with our small but friendly and dedicated team ready to share curriculum content and subject knowledge. All staff are required to work flexibly and in a way that encourages a positive work environment that is solution focused and proactive for all.

You will have a passion for learning and teaching, together with the skills to inspire and motivate our students. You will have the ability to teach Health and Social Care at GCSE, delivering and adapting high quality lessons, carefully and thoughtfully put together by the HSC team, to enable students to develop the skills, understanding and knowledge needed to become engaged, empathetic and informed practitioners in the classroom.  We currently follow the OCR specification.

However, we are also keen to hear from candidates who have passion and enthusiasm, and a willingness to contribute to the continuing development of the department.  The ability to also offer Psychology, Criminology, Religious Studies, or Sociology would be an advantage but is not essential.

This is an excellent opportunity for a new or experienced teacher looking to make a difference to the lives of young people. If you are someone who has the ability to engage and enthuse students, coupled with drive and commitment, then we would like to hear from you.

Teaching is about being enthusiastic about your subject and passing that enthusiasm on to your students.

As History teachers we are here to help our pupils understand about past human activities and historical changes.

Join a team of friendly colleagues inspired to motivate young people to learn.

We would particularly like to hear from you if you are an outstanding teacher of History, excited to teach across the full age and ability range and to play a part, together with other colleagues, in the continuing development of the department. One of the department’s strengths is its strong sense of teamwork whereby all members feel able to contribute to the development of the department. We are committed to ensuring that all members of the History Department are able to have access to quality CPD.

History is a very popular option at GCSE with thirteen groups in Years 10 and 11 following the OCR B SHP syllabus. At A Level the AQA specification is offered with students following components on Tudor England, Weimar and Nazi Germany and a non-examined assessment on Stuart England. GCSE is, of course, a major focus and the department is determined to maintain its outstanding performance of recent years.

Bringing History to life and encouraging pupils and students to engage with it in and beyond the classroom is a major factor in making the subject so popular in our schools. There are detailed schemes of work at Years 7 and 8 which are reviewed regularly and the department is committed to encouraging and developing exciting and innovative enquiry-based learning. It is also active in offering extracurricular opportunities to the pupils and students, which have included trips to the battlefields of the Western Front for Year 9, Ancient History trips to Italy and Greece and a History trip to Berlin for the Sixth Form. History staff are also actively involved in trips organised and run by other departments. Colleagues are positively encouraged to build on personal interests and expertise in order to enrich the extra-curricular life of the department and school. A willingness to be fully involved in this aspect of the provision of these learning experiences would be a required quality in the successful candidate.

Applications are welcome from either an ECT or someone with experience wishing to further develop their career. As a trust with two large secondary schools in Gosport there are many opportunities for career development.

The successful applicant will be responsible for a tutor group within a year system of pastoral care; tutors and their pupils move through the School with the same Head of Year.
