Jack

Today, the Dance Live crew visited Rowner Junior School to film their entry to this year’s Dance Live TV. We are really excited to share the first photos with you – click here. We are so proud of our young people, who despite navigating many difficulties this year, have worked incredibly hard to present an awesome performance.

The theme this year was Jack – a twist on the well known fairytale, Jack and the Beanstalk. A tale known to many, but do you know the truth? Jack seeks revenge on the giants who have taken everything. With his gang he plans to take back what is his and teach those giants a lesson they will never forget. But, can he resist the lure of gold or will greed mean he is no better than them…

Last year was the first year Dance Live used a large LED screen to support the performances. Rowner used theirs exceptionally well and
were very proud to win the finals after being runners up in our heat at Portsmouth Guildhall. This year, Rowner have made the screen even more interactive through the use of green screens and screen mapping – explicitly linking the movement on stage to the animation on screen. It looked awesome!

Team Rowner were rightly proud of their efforts and their performance. Team Rowner have all worked exceptionally hard and  have shared:

Mckenzie –  We still had rehearsals online when we were at home in lockdown. It was a bit frustrating because I didn’t have as much room as I would have liked but it made me still feel connected to my friends.

Thomas – It has been great this year because even with lockdown restrictions we have been able to work together to make an amazing performance that we are proud of. In previous years, I was mainly behind the scenes but this year I am performing as well as helping the backstage crew, my confidence has really grown.

Mrs Knoll (RJS SEND leader) – Dance Live is a fantastic opportunity for all of our children to take part in an inclusive group performance. Due to restrictions, we have had to limit our team to Year 6 this year and make many alterations to our original plans. However, the children have been really resilient, supported each other and I have loved watching their confidence grow.

We hope you enjoy the photos. We can’t wait to see the video final.
