17 SepGFM Proud of Gosport Fire Cadets
Gosport Fire Cadets has a contingent of fifteen young people aged between 11-17. The group started in June 2019 and is led predominantly by volunteers. The cadets have been trained in all aspects of firefighting with the exception of supporting local call outs. The training is extensive and includes ladder operation, hose drills/running, BA training, road traffic accidents (cutting casualties out of a car) and search and rescue in a building blindfolded. Recently, the cadets were able to test out a new appliance (UHPL) to Gosport Fire Station which has the power to cut through concrete just using the abrasive water lance from the appliance! One cadet, Nathan Anderson, is a GFM learner. He has excelled and grown in confidence. During lockdown he raised over £1000 for QA hospital and presented AOK christmas presents from the money raised with the other cadets. Additionally, he has been chosen to represent Hampshire Isle of Wight Fire Service cadets in the remembrance day parade at the cenotaph in November. A great honour. The GFM are very proud of the Gosport Fire Cadets and in particular those cadets who learn in our schools. They are a credit to the Trust and the local community. The GFM are very proud of his successes.
