We are looking to appoint an A Level Biology Lead for science, based at Bay House School. The Science department is continually developing and striving for excellence for all. You will be an excellent classroom practitioner and will be inspirational and passionate about teaching and learning, have a keen interest in data and a desire to raise aspirations.


Working closely with other established science leaders and undertaking line management responsibilities, you would be responsible for leading A Level Biology and be an active member of the department’s drive for improving outcomes in science via monitoring of teaching, learning and assessment and will support the transition of learners from KS4 into the A level course.


Some experience of leadership is desirable but not essential, although you will need to be a highly motivated and inspiring individual committed to embracing the current national challenges, whilst retaining pupil engagement for A Level Biology and science, promoting enthusiasm for the subject.

Contract: Fixed Term one year in the first instance

We are looking for a Secondary Phase SENCo to develop the management and support in the leadership of provision for learners with SEND. The role will involve close working with the Inclusion leadership team and wider teams within the inclusion cell.


You will have the strategic overview of the academic and pastoral outcomes of learners with SEND. You will also be responsible for ensuring that learners with SEND have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, which is inclusive of their needs. You will support the training for all teaching and support staff, to ensure appropriate provision is in place for learners with SEND in both interventions and in the classroom.


Furthermore, you will liaise regularly with appropriate outside agents to ensure appropriate intervention and support is in place. You will be responsible for regularly communicating with all key stakeholders for learners with SEND, including their parents and carers.


You will also be utilising diagnostic information to signpost where further and intervention support may be required for targeted individuals. This is a highly rewarding and challenging role.

The GFM is continuing to develop and enhance its Humanities provision across the secondary phase and is looking to recruit a confident, self-motivated teacher of geography who is a good communicator, clear team player and is someone who can take up the helm of subject lead for A Level geography, continuing to develop our current sixth form geography provision. This post will be based on the Bay House school site.


We are looking for:

  • Someone who has a strong commitment to safeguarding;
  • Someone who is positive, enthusiastic and has a good sense of humour;
  • Someone who has experience of A Level Geography teaching.


Our secondary phase is now aligned to provide a mirrored curriculum across KS3 and GCSE at both of our secondary school sites. Our KS3 schemes of learning and assessments deliver an exciting and varied curriculum to pupils. There is a great emphasis placed on providing a range of active teaching and learning techniques in our lessons to engage those within our care.


The department currently follows the AQA GCSE Geography and our A Level cohort at Bay House follow the AQA syllabus, both of which provide a good balance between physical and human geography. Geography is a popular subject, often averaging three to four groups in both the lower and upper sixth. Bay House Sixth Form has exceeded the national average in terms of results year on year; and is one of the top sixth form providers in Hampshire. The successful candidate would be expected to teach across Key Stages 3-5.


Fieldwork is an important element in the department’s teaching and several trips are arranged each year. In the past this included an annual ALevel trip to Iceland and we are looking to revive these trips as we move out of the pandemic. In addition to this, we usually run an annual KS3 trip; previous destinations have included the Lake District and the Pembrokeshire coast. Other fieldwork activities include trips to locations nearby including local beaches and towns, such as Portsmouth, Christchurch Bay and West Wittering.


We also encourage learning outside the classroom with the use of Stokes Bay for coastal fieldwork and Stanley Park for investigating the characteristics of woodland habitats, both of which are on our doorstep.
