Parent Governor Vacancy – Secondary Local Governing Committee

Expressions of interest are now being invited for the position of Parent Governor on the GFM Secondary Local Governing Committee.

We are looking to recruit two parent governors: one from Bay House School and one from Brune Park School, to work closely with the leadership teams in supporting school improvement and maximising pupil outcomes. Applications are therefore invited for parents/carers of existing students attending either Bay House School or Brune Park School, with the Committee supporting both secondary schools.

Parent governors play an important role as members of the governing body, helping to promote high standards of educational achievement, monitor progress and support and challenge future development plans. The Secondary Local Governing Committee is not a decision-making body, but instead monitors and listens to what is happening within the secondary schools, particularly in light of the well-publicised challenges that lie ahead with constraints on funding and rising costs.

Individuals with experience and interests in data scrutiny and supporting change would be particularly welcomed by the current governing body; however, an interest in the performance of the schools and a desire to contribute and get involved are equally valued.

These roles are volunteer posts and as a Parent Governor you will be expected to attend meetings of the full governing body (currently meeting once every half term) and maybe other ad hoc meetings during a term. Full Governing Body meetings are generally held in the evening with a start time of 6pm.

You will also be expected to be able to come into school to perform monitoring visits as required; probably once or twice a term depending on your role within the governing body.

If you would like to apply, please complete the Parent Governor Expression of Interest application form and return it to HR@gfmat.org by Tuesday 7 May 2019. If there are more applications than positions available, election will be by secret ballot, details of which will be provided in due course, if required.
